Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

One of the most popular nonsurgical therapies these days is platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. It is favored by sports medicine physicians, orthopedists, and many other doctors and specialists because of its versatility and the amazing results it delivers.
PRP therapy works by harnessing the healing power of growth factor proteins contained within the platelets in your blood. These growth factors are what drive healing in your body. When delivered in concentrated amounts to an area of injury in your body, they essentially supercharge your body’s natural healing response – enabling you to heal faster and more completely than usual.
This is especially helpful after an injury or when needed to encourage the regeneration of ligaments, tendons, and sometimes even cartilage.

What is PRP

How PRP is Administered

PRP therapy is a relatively quick and easy procedure that can be conveniently performed in the NIVA Health offices.
Some of your blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to separate the growth-factor-rich platelets from the rest of the cells in your blood. This concentrated quantity of platelets – up to 10 times greater than what is normally found in the blood – is then injected at the site of your injury. The growth factors signal your body to step up its healing in that area.

What PRP Therapy is Used for

PRP therapy has been used successfully in patients with soft tissue injuries and conditions such as:

PPR is a safe, natural way to speed healing. It is less expensive than surgery and has none of the complications associated with a surgical procedure.
The number of PRP treatments necessary to achieve the desired results may vary, and it can be 3-4 weeks after a treatment before results are seen. When multiple treatments are necessary, they are typically spaced up to 6 months apart.
